Default 421-8H II bass reflex design

I have been working with the T/S parameters for designing a bass reflex enclosure for my Altec 421-8H II speaker. But they come out with a 2.3 cu ft box (ideal alignment?). Now having a small enclosure suits me fine, but a good sound is a priority. I play bass & electric piano. I want to build 2 boxes (I have 2 speakers), using only one for small venues and 2 for larger ones. I don't have an amp at this point ( I prefer tube amps), and that is another topic I want your advice on; which one do you recommend?
All or any help will be greatly appreciated

Thank you

I would do a take off from the dimensions in the link. The 1233 uses the 421 8LF but you could use the same size cabinet. Keep in mind the recess for the grill.
