Default Review my subwoofer design please

Please take a look at this subwoofer design. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

It will use:

Dayton classic 15" 295-470

Bash 300 or Bash 500 plate amp

The box will be vented 9 cu ft net

Two 17" flared ports

Bassbox pro and winisd show show a pretty flat response with F3 at about 22hz
Dayton classic 15 19hz.png

The sub will be front firing and vents will be side firing into the remaining space of a recessed opening in a concrete wall.

Thanks in advance

You need a X brace like Earl's.
What is the diameter of those ports?

The vents are the 4" flared from PE. I thought that two 4" vents would be large enough to avoid chuffing.

I haven't finalized the bracing yet. If you can provide a link to Earls design I would love to have a look at it. I can always recalculate volume to reflect different bracing.

Thanks in advance.

If you haven't purchased the driver yet, you should consider the Dayton DCS385-4 15" Classic sub driver.

- only $10 more and it has a lower qts(more suited to being ported) lower Fs, more xmax and better power handling

I think we're looking at the same woofer. Did you mean to post a different link?

Dayton Audio DCS385-4 15" Classic Subwoofer 4 Ohm

Is this the one?

Also, I tried doing a search for Earl to check out his design. Can you post a link?

Default a few things to check...

You would be well served by checking the vent air speed at "full power". I suspect that even two 4" ports will not be enough for two 15" woofers tuned to 22Hz. It does depend on the box size too, so you have to model it. You want to keep max velocity below about 17m/s (55 ft/s) to keep port compression and turbulence noise tolerable.

Also, you should check for port self-resonances. The only program that I know that does this is Unibox. Google and download it if you do not have it.

These are the two most common things that are overlooked in vented box subwoofer design, in my opinion.

Thanks for the response.

There will only be 1 15" Dayton. I could go to 6" if nessesary but I thought 2 4" would be enough.

I have tried to download Unibox but have had difficulty with that. I'll try it again.

Any other tips?
