Default Krix woofer power handling?

Gday guys (and the odd gal i guess)

I've got a Krix seismix 3 subwoofer that has a busted amplifier. I'm looking at replacing the amplifier with one of the hypex plate amplifiers, but dont know which one i should go for, because i really dont know the power handling of the woofer. Would anyone here have any insight into the specs of the woofers used in the Seismix line.

When manufactured, the amplifier was rated at 220W RMS and 400W max, and the woofer is 10 inch diameter.

The Hypex i would like to buy is the 400W version, but dont know if this will be safe.

Thanks for any advice.

Brad.

The extra power of a larger amp is unlikely to be a problem. The biggest killer of speakers is too small an amp driven into clipping. This then exposes the voice coils to a square wave which has a much larger heating effect on the coil.

Further, the woofer's travel is highly likely to be exceeded prior to voice coil thermal problems. This should be clearly audible (i.e. when you turn it up so loud it sounds terrible).

So, if no problems with the money, just buy the bigger amp and don't keep driving the speaker if it hits its limits and sounds bad. That's my take on it...
