I've got 4 of these.
I've searched but can't find a design other than Bill's. I bought his plans but just too big for our small room ( 12 x 18 ). I can't model. I've tried. Old Timers disease. I'm intrigued by many tapped horns I see and slight alteration of dimensions make these work for fitment in room but I'm bright enough to realize this isn't the way to design a Sub. Truth being I've owned 5 different Big Box Store subs and even at $400 a pop (JBL) I thought they all sucked as did my Wife. DIY simply has to do better. We want clean, clear, crisp bass for music and would love to get to mid 20's for Music at 100 db . We'd be happy with high 20's- low 30's at 105 db for HT as long as it's clean. All we've owned has been able to rattle stuff but simply sounded like garbage. A friend stated Jack Hidleys amps wouldn't power these & I've been thinking about Apex Sr.'s. Anything Guys - I'd like to use these. |

Hi,
In geitmans' thread you can find the plans for the TH-SPUD, which is a Tom Danley designed HT tapped horn using two of these drivers: Dual 8" tapped horn = TH-SPUD If the box is to small, you can divide the cross-sectional areas by two, and maintain the length of the horn path, and arrive at a box for a single driver at about 1/2 the volume. You will then have to fold it to fit your requirements. There are also other builds and simulations that you can find with the Google. Regards,

For a reasonably compact design using the Jhidley Foster amp see my build at this thread. It uses the MCM driver but it is close to your TB drivers.
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1240371 FYI--the Foster amp is an awesome match for the MCM driver that I used or your TB driver. They model rather close to each other. |

I'm sure someone would model these for hornsresp for you.
I remember from another thread someone posted a screen shot of all the input parameters. He said use those then just change them around to fit your sub accordingly. Search for it on here...? |

There are lots of great options out there. This one is pretty cool:
JLH 20 Hz I took that general idea, as well as some others I've come across, mixed it all up and came up with this: Reed Shopsub This does not go quite as low (~25 Hz corner), but gets plenty loud. It should - it is a larger enclosure. One should get past 115 dB at the listening position in a typical room on 300 watts and within xmax, but it will need a 25 Hz highpass to survive high-level home theater use. A pair in a room should literally break stuff when cranked up, Todd managed to break stuff with one. |

Thanks Guys -
Some good ideas here. If anyone has any ideas for smaller one (28H X 22D x 10W) I'm all ears. |

Could maybe fold up a 25 Hz single-driver horn in that space, but that is a lot of folding. Let me check something... Nope - won't work. Tried a 10" wide anarchy fold - this driver is not a good fit. |

Thanks Mike -
The Anarchy keeps calling to me - wondered if it would work. |

I took another look, tried narrower and wider cabinets, and it is just not a good fit. The W8-740 wants a higher throat to mouth ratio than that fold provides.

I built a couple tapped horns with the W8-740C, which is an older model of the W8-740P. The T/S parameters given by Tang Band were off enough to make a difference in the tapped horn performance. Once the T/S parameters were actually measured, the desired results were much closer to the modeled predictions. If all possible, you should measure the T/S parameters of the drivers you have before actually building anything. It will save you a lot of trouble.
