Hi guys, here's the almost-finished sub, made with help from the folks here.
It was designed by djk, see here: Tiny consumer sub puts my 10" sub to shame? Some pics: Inside the box (look ma! no bracing!) ![]() Woofer installed: ![]() Primer ![]() Finish paint (hammered black spray) ![]() The results? Well the graphs show a flat response between 40 and 65Hz... at +5dB. 36-75 at +3dB. So it's a pretty low sub. It doesn't have any "punch" at all, but it does have the movie theater kind of sound. For a Home Theater sub, it's awesome. Really little excursion for such loud bass too. I'd need to complement it with some decent stereo speakers. It's not the sound I wanted, but it's what I had (I wasn't getting another speaker anyway). |

The 'punch' in music really comes from the 100hz~1Khz region, and how well the rest of the system blends in.
I'm not sure what you can get in Argentina, but I would look for something that in a sealed box would start to roll off below 80hz or so. I don't know what it would cost for you to import a pair of these, but they look very good for not much money: https://www.madisound.com/store/prod...oducts_id=8406 A low cost tweeter: https://www.madisound.com/store/prod...oducts_id=8264

Thats when I found out why they had sub-bass, bass, and mid-bass. Anyway, importing is out of the question because of shipping cost. It's always over $100. I'm always looking at Selenium's stuff because the local shop carries their "Pro" line as well as the Auto line (for other brands they only have Auto stuff). Even if I can't get it here, I could always bootleg one directly from Brazil or Paraguay (I'm 300Km away frin Paraguay I got these tweeters: SELENIUM they sound really nice. I like Diana Krall and those jazz songs can put your tweeters to test... I don't know how to describe it, but they "caress" your ears unlike cheap piezos which feel like someone is sticking a needle in them. For woofers, here's selenium's "Pro" woofers: SELENIUM I want the smallest I can get - if possible a 4-inch, but they don't have such a small woofer. This one: SELENIUM is the smallest they have. A quick & dirty WinISD test shows a 85Hz@0dB in a 30L box tuned to 50Hz. Another candidate would be a midbass driver, such as this one: SELENIUM WinISD shows 52Hz@0dB and a peak of 100Hz@4dB. And finally, I could use the drivers from the "Edifier R1000" series of computer speakers. Those are good-quality chinese speakers. I never liked that kind of speakers until I heard them at my friend's, and I can tell you they do sound pretty good. I don't have any specs for them so I'd just probably "reverse engineer" the original box.
