Bass units as stands

Some years ago, it was Rogers I seem to remember, made a pair of separate passive bass units for use with one of their bookshelf speaker systems, for which the bass units acted as stands.

I am keen to build something similar for my Mission 780SE speakers so would be interested if anyone knows of similar designs. I would want the width to be similar to the Missions, perhaps 200mm max but I could go a bit deeper, maybe 260mm. Height would ideally be around 700mm to 800mm. These could be front, side or down firing, the only constraint being that they will sit either side of a chimney breast with the backs and one side close to a wall.

I could go out and buy a pair of floorstanders, but I like the Missions, I like DIY and would just like a bit more low end without spending the earth.

More like the speaker goes on the stand and the flower pot goes on the speaker. Or more correctly, the mat goes on the speaker and the flower pot goes on the mat.

The problem with flowers on the speaker stands... is when they get watered.

I did a pair of downfiring sonotube subwoofers wrapped in grill cloth with 2" solid oak tops for a local church to be up front used as plant stands.

When the music got loud, the front row got baptized.....

Rogers made the AB1 sub for use with the LS3/5a bookshelf monitor.
The AB1 is a fourth order bandpass sub. There are details on a DIY pair here.

Those missions linked are designed more for home theatre, so will likely be more low and rumbly than strictly accurate bass reproduction.

I'm yet to finish them, I'll be getting the wood towards the end of next week. With a bit of luck, the amp will be up and running by then.

My heart sunk when I read your reply. I have only recently sold a pair of 35 year old B110's. That they would ever be suitable for a bass project never even occured to me. Still, something similar to the AB1 is exactly what I want.
