Default Subwoofer placement and crossover setting.

I am wondering about placing (2) 10-12" sealed subs under my studio monitors but almost ear level and crossing them over at around 120-150hz. I understand localization is not noticeable until above 80hz hence the question about placement. I have an active crossover I would put into play. What I'm after is better midbass in a near-field environment. Should I just try to build mid bass modules instead (50-200hz)?

TIA
