How to find right replacement speaker

Is there tutorial how to check can speaker be used as replacement speaker, woofer, mid or tweeter?
Beside obvious SIZE, what do you need to look?
Is there some software that can do the trick?

For subs and woofers Thiele-Small parameters and modelling software are a good starting point.

I'm using WinISD where I can search for parameters that I'm looking for.
Only thing is that software is searching for EXACT values, while as I understand Thiele-Small parameters can be within some values.

If for example left speaker has blown but right is OK, measure the right one. If both are blown or you can't measure, look for a model number on the drive unit and get busy wth Google. If you know who makes the drive unit it should be easy to contact them. Even the whole speaker maker might be tell you the parameters.
