Firing up the amplifier without PSU caps would be a bad idea, as they make the rectifier output into DC

You'd end up feeding the amplifier with the signal at the bottom of that image. Not a good idea.

Probably would let out the magic smoke if I were to power it up without the caps based on that waveform. Thanks guys. I prefer to keep my electronics non smoking
