Default interesting.....

hehe this is interesting,
@zerocool, you may remember me from all the NAKAMICHI CD 700 / MB threads on this forum, i also started the nakamichi owners group on facebook

I Too am now looking for the velodyne fsr-12 schematics,
what is the fault with yours?

i actually just today got a velodyne fsr-12 subwoofer for free!!

family of mine has a repair shop (electronics) and this subwoofer was abandoned by a customer as it was "beyond economical repair".

velodyne usa simply say they dont have parts.....
i thought i'd snatch this sub and give it a shot myself and see if i can get the beast working.

havent looked at it yet but the jobcard(repair shop) said something about a power module.

this sub is interesting as its a "servo" unit, works on the very same principle that my philips mfb-545 studio monitors work, mfb being Motional_Feed-Back...

its basically a sensor in the cone that adjusts itself to corect distortions at high output.

wonder if velodyne bought this technology from philips?

philips to my knowledge were the first to have this technology, back in the 70's.

the mfb 545's come from circa 1978.

Anyway, if you managed to get the service manual, is there any way u could pass me on a copy?

compuniquecc@gmail.com <----my email address.

otherwise, anyone else out there that has the schematics/service manual?

Regards
Anton

after a half dozen calls to velodyne I have given up! they have been TOTALLY unresponsive! i finally got to one guy that told me the accelerometer in the woofer had gone out and they haven't had parts for that unit since 1998 (this is a 1997 model! and is dated so inside). multiple request for schematics...they can't find them...no response to voice mails, emails...very very bad...I will not be dealing with velodyne again!

The unit i had would pop the woofer full excursion. it would start out with an odd echoing sound then develop into full swing pop's. If you disconnect the servo cable from the amp, the cone will servo in/out slowly and that's pretty much the death of these.

Sometimes the accelerometer can just come loose. you can see through vent holes in the cone if you remove the woofer.

CRAPPY amp design using a STK amp module....pull out the amp, chunk it in the trash. replace it with a normal sub plate and forget the whole servo mess!

You know I am beginning to wonder about them, buddy has your same sub, I have 2 of there subs and am looking for info on them as both of mine are now not working. We tried to fix buddies sub and after reading the post here. It works but has a hum in it and sometimes just doesn't sound right.

Well velodyne official sucks the big one.

I have no working subs anymore.

My DPS-12 has overheated for some unknown reason the TIP29B and TIP30B POWER transistors in the power supply, the amp works until these heat up, they have gotten so hot that the board has changed colour and the horrible yellow glue then clued the 2 big filter caps down with has turned black. I called velodyne and they where no help at all, when the amps output quits the middle LED flashes and they wouldn't tell me what that meant. But they did tell me now way in hell I was going to see service info or schematic for this amp while it was a current item they sell.
I don't drive the crap out of it, the setting is 0-100, I maybe have it at 1-15, maybe 20 at the most and the output from my reciever goes 0-20 and I have it at min or 1.

My DLS-5000R is blowing fuses and again they won't tell me anything other than it will cost me if I ship them to them $199 to fix the small one and $299 to fix this big one.

What I want to know is why the little one is overheating these to power transistors, I am going to change them when I can find some and drill a few pennies to use as additional heat syncs on them and hope that helps. The DLS-5000R has a shorted output so the previous owner most likely drove it too hard so I am hoping that once I change that everything will be running again.

But I can tell you its the last time I buy a sub from them with a plate in it, I will buy the older ones next time with the external amp.
