Default which driver for a sub

In the last i would say 3 years i have managed to blow up two sub drivers .
shivas & a peerless xls 12 inch . both my own fault .

I am looking at using a Dayton driver .

I am after some opinions on which is the better driver Dayton Reference or the Dayton Titanic MKIII. or maybe a reference 15 inch ?

In a medium to small box . it is for use both H/T & music

You could use a pro driver, Eminence for example. They are harder to blow up.

The box type is not mentioned or the mode of failure. Over excursion or overheat?

You may be trying to get bass using small ports which does not work. Used a sealed box or a port that is at least 1/2 the surface area of the active driver. Ports much smaller than that will go into power compression long before the maximum output of the driver is reached leading to cranking up the bass yet no increase in low bass output. I never use ports because by the time a big enough port is in the cabinet there is room for two active drivers.

Voice coil diameter is a fair measure of power handling with a bigger voice coil handling more power. These two will make bass and handle reasonable power in small 2-3 cu ft, sealed cabinets with 2.5 inch voice coils.

Ideal voice coil size for a 15 is near 3.75 inches but those are only available in pro speakers designed for vented cabinets usually near 40Hz.
