I've had this thought, so I figure I should let you guys pick it apart.
The actual depth of bass you hear from a speaker is subjective. Some say the -6dB point is significant, others argue the -10dB. Anyway, I figure that, using a Linkwitz Transform, you could make the sub roll off to -6dB, then use the circuit to flatten it from there (if that makes sense). I'll try again. You don't eq the roll-off immediately, you wait for the -6dB point, then apply eq to make it flat across the frequency range, but at a constant -6dB. Main advantage I can see is that it requires 6dB less gain than usual, but (according to subjective opinions) will still sound very deep. If this is a bad idea, feel free to say so, because it's just an idea - I get loads of bonkers ideas like this. I figure that, one day, one of them will work... Chris

With EQ, your world's an oyster. An LT defines a correction to end up with a specific freq response. Along with that final response is the time/impulse behavior, too.
Yes, of course, you can modify it to tailor how you want things. Don't forget about the limits of excursions, though, and nothing is wrong with using an additional 18Hz high-pass to protect things. The shape of the response you want is very subjective

The response shape you are referring to is not uncommon among ported subwoofers, it's an extended bass shelf = EBS. I like the non-bloated low end of the EBS.
