I am mostly thinking out loud...
Has anyone considered using a passive radiator in a tapped horn? I am not familiar with passive radiators at all and only a little with horns(built one tapped horn). From what I know a passive radiator functions the same as a port except with the advantage of no port noise. However in a tapped horn both the front and back of the driver are coupled correct? So does this confer an advantage to a passive radiator since it has a cone that can have force applied to it unlike a port? I am probably making some huge mistake in understanding or an assumption as such but thought I'd put the idea out for discussion or clarification. |

No, but it might make sense to replace the upper baffle port of a Karlson.
An enclosure which many say is akin to the tapped horn... It might get rid of the extreme LF short circuit? Assuming the PR doesn't actually displace more than the driver... Otherwise, I'm not sure how it prevents XMAX from being violated??? I suspect it can not actually help, as it probably needs to displace more than XMAX in this part of the horn. |
