I was looking into possibly building a subwoofer (as well as some speakers perhaps), but I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for.
I currently have a Klipsch 2.1 ProMedia speaker setup, so I was trying to figure out some simple beginner level projects that would be an upgrade. http://www.parts-express.com/project...t=TheTriskaSub That looked promising but would it be an upgrade? This would just be for use with my computer, no home theater, etc. Any advice or suggestions would be great, if it ends up being more complicated then I can turn to my brother for assistance. He's built an Altec model 19 clone, so he should be able to help me with the build. |

PC speakers should be fun, and relatively easy. I would start with Hivi B3N to replace the speakers. Good info about it here:
http://www.zaphaudio.com/audio-speaker18.html Then you could combine it with a compact sub. That sub probably would be an upgrade, and the driver isn't a bad choice, especially considering it's shielded to avoid problems with your monitor. But personally I'd go for a more interesting driver, and do a vented design instead. You could have a lot more fun with this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-832 or this http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=264-833 The first is about the same cost as your other driver + passive and it has some serious excursion for a little driver - 12mm! About an inch peak to peak! For a PC sub I'd give it similar proportions to a PC tower and put it on the ground. It will easily hide away. This could be a nice little project!
