Elbow in port

Ok, I'm having brain flatulence.

If you use an elbow on your port do you measure the length as along the inside turn(short path), outside turn(long path), or down the center(average). I believe is down the middle, but I want to make sure.

Also, assuming a front facing woofer and there is equal clearance in all directions, but stuffing on the bottom of the cabinet to fix a column resonance, does it matter if the elbow makes the port opening face up, down, or sideways?

The length is measured down the middle. It doesn't matter if the port opening faces up, down, or sideways, as long as it's one port diameter away from any wall.
