primer for fiberglass

I have built a sub box out of mdf I plan on coating the box with fiberglass to seal and to avoid the mdf from soaking up the paint.

can someone recommend a primer that will stick to fiberglass?

It's much easier to put on a coat of Kilz or some primer that will work for the paint you want to use.

Bondo works for filling in screw holes, etc...

Fiberglass is a pain to work with but it is strong. If you brace well, you can get the needed strength otherwise, without the mess.

But then maybe you want to use fiberglass; and if so, many paints will stick. That will be no problem.

The real advantage with fiberglass is the many shapes you can form. You could make any shape out of paper mache and then cover it with fiberglass and have a sub. Let your imagination run wild. Mickey Mouse, pumpkin, girl friend, what ever.

Are you planning to use cloth or just resin to do the sealing?

Hi,
As funny as it may sound, one trick that may work is to use pantyhose. Some of us used it on balsa models to prevent over soaking the soft wood with paint. It will be much easier to finish than fiberglass.

A tried and true sanding sealer and prep for painting MDF is coating with simple white glue.
