OK
How about medium "Q" driver in a medium size box. Not meant to be quite that snide if by medium "Q" you mean between 4 & 5 and a Qtc f 0.8/0.9 But my preference isn't every-ones and I find this combination needs a driver with Fs of around 18/20 hz

For real bass the " iron law" says to use a big cab or be prepared to use a lot more power!

I'll guess and say if both the large and the small interpretations are built to achieve the same Qbox then they will sound similar.

I'm wondering about the effect of the higher acoustic pressure inside a smaller box and whether that would have an audible effect.
I have have a notion that a larger box may sound more relaxed because of the lower pressures involved so I wanted to get feedback from anyone with experience of this. mike |

Mike I don't know if more relaxed is the term I'd use, but if the floor space is available go for the bigger box.
using sealed box with a driver with a low "Qts" will not give deep bass how-ever. For sealed boxes I'd not use any driver with a "Qts" below 0.33 myself but that is only my opinion, and how it sounds in the room is highly variable too

thanks to all for your comments
I am thinking of: 1 x Dayton 12" Titanic Mk3 4 ohm in about 100 litres per channel. or if I am feeling I bit more crazy 2 x Dayton 15" IB385-8 on open baffles per channel. cheers mike |

both will need some form of equalisation to get bass from the installation.
That equalisation will reduce the peak SPL available from the speaker. The bigger the box the more peak SPL available. But that does not get close to answering the original question. Does size affect the sound?
