I'm planning a subwoofer building that will use a single CSS SDX15 driver. Specifications can be seen here:http://www.creativesound.ca/details.php?model=SDX15
The enclosure is going to be ~6.75cu.ft. and tuned to ~20Hz with two 4" flared ports. I'm looking a subwoofer plate amp that outputs about 1,000w @ 4 ohm, as this is the RMS rating on the driver. I would prefer an amp with features such as adjustable low-pass 'rumble' filter and RCA/LFE inputs. I'm looking at a budget of about $500 CAD for this amplifier. I have been looking at the Dayton HSPA1000 which is sold on the Creative Sound website for $450, although I've heard mixed reviews about it. Some people have complained of it lacking power at high volumes, and this is a bit of an issue for me. Any suggestion would be appreciated! |

That combo should be fine. Plate amps are not the greatest but if you are getting a clean 250 watts from it you're doing ok. If you feel the need to step up, there are things like this from Reckhorn where you would use a regular amp in bridge mode.

If you want to stick with a plate amp, I would look at the Keiga 52100 or the Elemental Designs LT1300 (keiga-based). These both have the features you want, and unlike the PE amp will make their rated power (plus a little more.)

Thanks for the suggestions. I was also looking at the eD LT1300, although it's a bit outside of my price range.
I'm just curious, why is it that you aren't fond of plate amps? |

I have, and have used, both high-power plate amps and pro amps. They each have their own positive aspects. I can say that the Keiga-powered AV15/PR subs I have would be more than enough for 99% of the people interested in HT or music subwoofers.
