Lab12 - Tapped Horn

I built a Lab 12 tapped horn like the one on the first page on the lab 12 thread. Someone built a single folded one on post 181. I need another one with a single fold, but that one is shorter. Is there a single fold that matches the original one in length? Please help a brother out. I want two Lab 12s in my living room. Bill

Lab 12 build

I want to show you my Lab 12 build I did this winter. MY garage was full so I did it under the carport. I love it. Would like to build one with one fold so I can set it next to my fireplace. Anyone willing to help me with a single fold to match the original? Thanks, Bill

A single fold is easy to make, much more then the original one.

when use sketchup it will be easy but time consuming.

But why you want two? one is already very loud and enough for two
80 Hz satelites..

I built two when I did mine :)

I'll build two again if I ever rebuild them. Whenever I build subs, it's always a pair. OCD maybe, but I need symmetry.

Symmetry is not really needed for box below 100 hz because ears dont have ability to find the source for such low frequenties.

You can make a double fold with volvotreter folding scheme, and then fine tune length.

I go make a exp folded tapped horn, it is smaller, and better delay.

Oictures are example of exponential horn..

You'd be surprised how quick you can locate the sub if it's 1 m behind the listening position and the main speakers are 3 m o_O.....add to that my habit of having mad, wild EDM and dubstep parties once I get to drinking and the extra sensitivity helps.

I'm actually considering 4 subs.

This is because of delay errors and the production of producs who are hearable.
And afcourse the body itslefs do can find the location. sometimes ears get sgignals of the satelites who looks like it is very low bass, but for example 20 hz or 30 hz you can not hear only feel what makes it so exciting.

I am busy with a exponential tapped horn, who has far better delay and smaller box (240 liters in steat of 350 for the same low end) but building and folding will be a challence.

Lab 12 single fold

Thanks tb46. That is exactly what I was looking for. As for why I want two Lab 12s, I want to balance the room. My living room opens into my kitchen and I need more SPL. That's what I keep telling myself to justify the cost.:) Does anyone know if there is a Hornresp graph on this single fold? Thanks again, Bill

And to add, I will take photos of this build and show how I will "stretch" the plywood.

I know nothing about Hornresp. I have tried to use it but am having difficulty. I did not realize it would be the same without two more folds. Thanks very much, Bill

Hornresp doesn't deal with folds at all, your resulting schematic in Hornresp will always be unfolded...and there's usually no less than over 9000 different ways to fold it, or even leave it unfolded if you don't have a driver tap to deal with.

Hi Don.

I have now close to what I want, length is within 2 cm. now this box is exponential
less delay better respons more spl. but more work to make with all the parts for making the flare.

I will look in your link.
