Default Help needed with Unibox 4.08

I recently downloaded the unibox 4.08 program to use for designing a sub-woofer/passive radiator set-up. Maybe perhaps a mentor that could help me choose the correct driver/radiator for building a pair of subwoofers. I would like to design an 8" subwoofer/passive radiator/amplifier setup. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Emile

?? The program won't help you find the right driver/PR per se, only show you what sort of response various box sizes will have with different components.

The general guidelines though is the driver has to need a large, long vent for the chosen alignment (think low Vas) and the PR usually displaces more air than the directly driven cone, so use 1.5 - 2 X the displacement for it. If you use two passives, consider putting them on opposing sides to cancel out the inertial forces.

Hi GM, Thanks for that information! I would like to get a better understanding of this program. So far, what I understand is to put the woofers parameters into the Drive Unit Parameter's section and then scroll down to the different box types that the program calculates. Lets say I put the parameters in for an 8" woofer, then scroll down to the passive radiator section to see what the program calculates for that driver. Then what would I do next?

Thanks,

Emile

Greets!

You're welcome!

Well, I have V3.0 since I just DLed it ages ago to see how it compared to LspCad, but I assume its basics are the same for later versions, so you must input the PR's various required specs, then input the box Vb, etc. within the PR design box to get the various plots and use the macros underneath the plot window to adjust/fine tune the PR's mass, etc. variables. IOW it doesn't auto calc these alignments like it does for the default T/S max sealed, vented and band-pass ones.

So comparing the unibox to LspCad, would you say that for the unibox program being free, would it be close to giving me accurate results?

Also, when changing the box size and adjusting the mass for the pr- I see where the graph next to the parameters will readjust itself according to changes made in the Passive Radiator Parameters-under the Design by Vb,Mmp and Q. But when I go to the bottom tab-PR Box- to look at those graphs, how do I read those graphs to determine if that would be an optimum box or close to optimum?

Thanks Again!

Emile
