And finally, the beast has been manhandled in to the living room for its first audition.. which was dissapointing because of poor driver selection..

So, one of my stereo speakers had to donate its 13" seas Woofer which was then installed with an intermediate adapter-baffle..

A tight fit, but in it went!
Sure, the bass was noticeably deeper with the Seas Driver, but not as deep as I would really like from a sub. Most of the deeper output was probably due to the driver playing "through" the horn without to much efficient horn loading anyway. I also had to do a fair bit of EQ'ing to get the low's out meaning that the woofer probably had relatively large excursions in its closed internal chamber, thereby defying the whole point of horns which is low distortion due to low cone excursion from efficient loading and high efficiency. Thus, I leave the horn project behind and move over to a new sub project, one that will leave very little to be desired... But if you have an old 12" driver knocking about, some MDF and want to do something on a budget, this is potentially a great project that can give very good return on a budget. But if you are after serious sub performance and your budget allows for a serious build, this is not the optimum alternative. That is my conclusion anyway. anyway, hope this thread has provided some interesting reading and perhaps even inspired some itching in the DIY fingers! |

Hi again Anders!
Well, I guess this is as good as it gets, still have some more pictures but it's quite a job converting them all to the right frame and file size so this will have to do for now! Got to have some time for figuring out a new project as well you know! |
