I am looking for opinions on these boxes, and for the identity of the purported builder if possible, as I take all Ebay descripotions with a large grain of salt until I have dealt with the seller at least once
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/JBL-18-SUB-SU...1%7C240%3A1318 Are thse real subs or more SPL for DJ work??

It's a prosound driver, but if it's built well, should be far better than a one-note bass honker.
Here's the published specs: SPL: 98dB @ 1W, 1m Fs: 30hz Re: 2.5R Qts: 0.23 Qms: 2.2 Qes: 0.25 Vas: 480L Sd: 0.130m2 Xmax: 5.5mm Xlim: 12.5mm one way Vd: 720cm3 Le: 0.65mH Pe: 300W RMS Bl: 17 N/A |

The driver is obsolete, and it's likely that the seller doesn't know what the things are worth - which is a fair bit, they're still considered pretty good. I think that driver belongs in a horn, but it's probably possible to get a vented box looking good. I'm pretty sure the box shown is too small, but eh, maybe it measures fine.
Those specs are from the PDF on the JBL site for the 2240 4 ohm version. As a curiosity, the sticker swap indicates that the basket (and the cone? I'm not sure which parts define which model) originally belonged to a E155, but it has since had the coil changed to make it a 2240. The 2245 also shared that basket. |
