If you are looking merely for delivering more power, go with two 12's. A ported design would also increase the effective power you are able to deliver.

If you are looking to have a good solid low end, go with a single 15'' in a sealed cabinet. You'll still get lots of power. Of course if you're in need of both power and low-end response, go with the 18" in a ported cabinet, assuming you have the room for such a large piece of furniture.

It depends on what kind of bass your looking for.

15's give a better punch than 18's (They move faster)

18's will give you a heavier sound than 15's(They move Slower)

They both give different sounds. Where as most 15's can
go up to 1Khz, 18's stop at 300Hz. So, if your looking for
the best punch, 18's are not the one's. However, if your
looking for that slow heavy bass, 18's win over 15's.

It would be much easier to give some driver examples (Brand, model number) to determine which would be best,
for some are best, in horns, some reflex, and, some sealed.

Too many variabilites to give you a straight answer.

Incidently, two 12's have more radiating area than one 18.
But, if your comparing $40 dollars (Each) woofers (12's) to
a $300 dollar 18, the 18 is better.

Hey Matt.

Can you post the Brand/Model Number of the speakers your comparing?

TS Parameters would be Great!

Also, what size box, and, amplification is needed.

Answer those questions, and, we will be able to narrow
down your choice, to, the best speaker for your requirements.

Some 2x 12 inch drivers go lower than one single 18 inch.
EAW's special bent horn has 2x 12 inch drivers and goes down to 20hz.

Good 18 inches are; Eminence kilomax pro 18,omega pro 18,sigma pro 18,kappa 18,Precision Devices PD184,Fane Colossus
18 xbCelestion Frontline pro 18,JBL 2228

Good 15 inches are; Eminence kilomax pro 15,omega pro 15,kappa pro 15,kappa pro 15lf,kappa 15lf,kappa 15,delta 15 and maybe Beta 15.Fane Cresendo pro 15,Celestion Frontline pro 15,
Precision Devices PD154,JBL 2226

Good 12 inches are; Eminence omega pro 12, kappa pro 12,kappa 12 lf,kappa 12,delta 12.Celestion Frontline pro 12,

And also JBL,EV[Electrovoice],RCF,Beyma,Cerwin Vega,P. Audio,
are very good speakers.

Generally speaking, two 12 inches will be louder than one 18 inch or one 15 inch, but two 12 inches won't go as deep as 15 or 18 inches.
A very high SPL driver i've seen was the Eminence Kappa pro 15,average spl 1w at 1m 103 db.

I'm using the Eminence kappa pro 15[500w rms] at the moment in a scoop bass bin,and it's so extremely loud, and don't even need to push the mixer more than half.
Having said that Higher SPL drivers have less hard hitting bass than medium SPL drivers.
High SPL drivers have lightweight cones, medium SPL drivers have heavy cones.

Bull, your talking about the EAW KF 940. The 12's were built around an 18 inch scheme. They only have a 12 inch frame.
The Voice Coil, Motor Strength, as so forth, is 100% Eighteen. They also can only achieve a 20Hz response in blocks of four.

Peerless +

Very Good 12 inches also include Peerless 830500 & the excellent Lambda range.

Excellent 15 inches also include Lambda

If you want flat extension, get a “Linkwitz Transform” (LT) – an EQ designed for flat bass.

Search on Linkwitz Transform eg.

&

Download "Unibox" and model some drivers & alignments .

Using an LT does lower output higher up. I need to investigate myself the extent of this.
I’m intending some bass from 20-200 Hz, probably with one Peerless 830500 a side.
If I find there’s not enough bass, Plan B is to add another one per side.

Hope this helps.

i dont know. all of them really. not the PA ones, unless i can use them.

To be honest, most of them are focus around PA use.

Lets take a different approach................

What's your budget for speakers?

How much space do you available to house a sub?

What kind of bass are you looking for?

Punchy, Sub Low, In between?

What kind of power you can offer these drivers?

DJ Bass Amp.

This is how it works.

No DJ will use one bass box that will play 15Hz.

You will use boxes that will play around 40 - 35hz,
and, use multiples to achieve the desired frequency.

One bass box that offers 15 - 200Hz is low in
efficiency, and, we know volume is something
needed by DJ's.

As for the 4 ohm or 2 ohm thing. You'll need
8 ohms, used in multiples. 2 ohm speakers
are for cars. 4 ohms also. Its just you can
get away with a 4 ohm speaker. But two
8 ohm speakers by the same maker, and
model number, will surpass, one 4 ohm
speaker made by the same maker, and
model number, getting more output.
