Fostex W400-A-HR 15" Woofer

Anyone here ever use or know of someone who's used the Fostex W400-A-HR 15" Woofer? At $2,672.70 ea this had better be the world's best 15" woofer!

Although I've been in the audio hobby almost 40 years now I'm not very technically oriented and I'm very new to the DIY community. So besides the Alnico magent and it's outragous price, may I ask what makes this woofer so special?

You can get an 18" Faital 18FH500 at exactly 1/10 of the price, and it may even be better built...why is that you may ask...well, in the PRO world there are lots of competition....and they often sell in huge bundles which means they must be fairly priced...and they are built to last a lifetime

But why is this thread placed in "subwoofer" ... the Fostex is surely no sub driver

btw...2700USD is cheap...I have just seen it priced at 2800EUR

But if you want the real thing you can get a GOTO at around 10.000EUR

No doubt only the absolute best and most expencive materials fore poleplates and such are used

Question raised is whether such exotic materials offer significantly better sound, regardless of price...I think probably not
In speaker design or sound reproduction as a whole there are many other things to consider other than just using the best materials
