Default High efficiency subwoofer

Hi all, I need to know where I can buy or at least some names of high efficiency (high sensitivity, above 98dB) woofers for my car. Anything in between 10 and 15 inches. Frequency responce should be as low as 29 at least. I would also Like to know why most car audio subwoofers are crap (87dB, WTF are you thinking boss?) The best I could find where gw-15xp at 100 dB's.

Hi,

Basic physics.
Higher efficiency means less bass or a bigger box.
98dB down to 30Hz needs a massive box.

All that matters for subwoofers is basically volume displacement,
Sd x excursion and having the power to use it.
Any response can be EQ'd within excursion and power limits.

FWIW 87dB / 4 ohms = 84dB / real watt.

/sreten.

Default use dem eyes son!

Don't trust car audio specs mate. High efficiency subs are great, but take more real estate than most cars have available, every 3dB more sensitivity means a doubling of box size for the same bass extension.

Example:

Getting 102dB/W outdoors at 40Hz with a single 15 inch driver requires a 550 liter enclosure (folded horn).

Thighs are easier inside cars because cabin gain bosts efficiency by 12dB/oct below 60Hz and down to 20Hz or so. You can expect another 6dB or so of boost below 200Hz due to the inherent 0.5 pi spatial load.

I recommend 6th order bandpass boxes as they may be tuned to increase efficiency while equalizing cabin gain and keeping cone displacement under control. They allow some low efficiency drivers to sound loud with not that much power.

Thanks, I have a GW-15XP on my hands with a 100dB sensitivity and It moves a ton of air with little power.

185 litres? Really. Then it would need an excursion of 2.23 metres (for a 15" driver with an Sd of 830cm)
