Default Stuffing a subwoofer

I am stuffing my vented subwoofer with polyfill kind of material. May i know what i should be looking to achieve ? I mean like how do i know that i have not overstuffed the subwoofer ?

The subwoofer is downfiring with ports at the back. Its a box design btw.

Hi,

i use 2 BR Subwoofers. They are completely unstuffed.
I was just too lazy to stuff them and they work that well
that i left them as they were.

When your BR is aligned properly and the enclosure is
small compared to wavelength in the whole frequency
range the subwoofwer is used, there is normally no need
for stuffing.

If your subwoofer suffers a little from hangover or resonances
audible in the midrange - because decay of the lowpass is
not very steep - some stuffing will help.

It is important to leave the surrounding space of the vents
free. A light stuffing immediately behind the driver has most
significant effect. You can use some eyelets and strings to fix
the wadding where you want to have it.

Complete stuffing of the volume, as it is done with closed box
designs is counterproductive with most BR alignments, because
you lower the helmoltz resonators Q and loose low bass extension.

Cheers

No personal experience with full stuffing but partial stuffing I have used to moderate my mistakes in design
