In that price range the Apex "Senior" Subwoofer Amp is a good deal. More power for the money compared to the amps you listed.

Its more expensive than the plate amps.. but its worth it.

I have the A400, incredibly well built with a LOT of quality power supply.

For about 150 you might want to consider a DUAL VC woofer and utilizing 2 plate amps, for that I'd recommend these:

Low cost yet decent DVC woofers can be purchased from Parts Express here:

With an amp for each coil that will give you a LOT of versatility.

But if you simply must have a single plate amp at around 150:

Note that one of things you ALWAYS want is a fully adjustable phase "knob".

I got some of the VT3 amps, which are 300W Sunfires, to drive my subs. Stupid cheap price. They work perfectly.

Whoa, I think you blew my mind a little bit there, I hadn't even considered such an option. I've actually got 2 speakers coming - The shielded 10" Fosters from Mr. Hidley - I was planning an isobarik setup but also thinking I'd play around with as many configurations as possible. I'll have to think through the implications of setting up with 2 amps...

That A400 is looking awfully sexy as well. It'd be hard to say no to that.

Of course I saw the VT3 amps, but have figured myself not expert enough to build a control unit that would have the flexibility I hope to be able to afford.

I figured there had to be better options than what I had so far found, thanks everyone for proving me right.

$150 is not that far away from a used "pro" power amp, or consumer basic power amp. Watch the classifieds, eBay (for amps within pickup distance), music stores and pawn shops.
