Hi, i have just brought a amplifier thats rated at 4ohms, i was thinking of using a peerless xls10, which is rated at 8ohm, can i connect this as it is or shall i use a 4 ohm resistor in parrallel?
which method would be the best? also will the resistor get very hot and possibly brake, causing damage the amp or sub? thx Olly |

Connect it directly. What the amp rating tells you is the lowest recommended impedance for the amp. Do not use a 4 ohm resistor. That is a complete waste of power and will drop the impedance below 4 ohms.

note: your amp (on 8 ohm load) will produce probably about half the power, then the rated power on 4 ohm load. But it will run cooler (and longer...)

...and you'll be hard pressed to notice the difference, it's only 3 dB.
