Electronic and passive low pass filters cannot filter harmonic distortion.

The bandpass high pass filter can. This is one advantage. The other
is maximum output around the bandpass port frequency. The phase
etc response of an active 4th order L/R low pass and say a passive
bandpass 2nd order low pass + active 2nd order low pass = L/R, is
identical in all respects, minimum roll-off though is 3rd order.

BP's are not flexible, tuning is critical and very sensitive (to variation).
Implemented well for the correct purpose, nothing wrong with them.

They are most useful in maximising output levels.
