hi samsagaz
seas has many series drivers. if you want to build a ht. i think that classic paper cone with coated is the best choice. 1. low mass cone 2.isnot expensive.3.specs is ok

It appears that Seas doesn't make true subwoofers, just woofers. Still, some would perform well in that roll. H1208 and H1209 look ok. |

Hi, Forget about high Qts, it has very little to do with selecting a sub driver. You need to figure out a few things. First you need to decide how much you want to spend. Second you need to determine how big you want the box to be, small or large. Third you need to decide what alignment you want it to be - sealed, vented, etc. Fourth is you use these requirements to find a suitable driver. You might be better off finding an established design and going with that. I'm sure there are a few to choose from. If you decide to go it on your own, download Unibox. It's very good for designing subs and speakers. |

There are a number of Seas woofers suitable for tapped horn loading, but it seems a waste of its looks/quality/price. One or more reverse tapered TQWTs loaded with one of the low Fs, Qts drivers should work well though.

1 - No limit, but 300USD will be OK. 2 - Dont care about the box Size 3 - Dont care, i just want to go lower (20-25hz) 4 - I say Seas because i will purchase all SEas drivers to build an complete HT system, and maybe can get some discount if purchase one driver for Sub, but any brand will be OK i think. |

Peerless makes excellent subs.
The Peerless 308SWR51XXLS with a Peerless 308PAS425G passive radiator in a ~45 litre box will give extension down to 18Hz and with a powerful amp (350-400 watts) will give high spl - 120db at 25Hz. For the money, small size of box and quality of bass it produces, it's hard to beat this. Or you could do as GM suggests and do a tapped horn. I'm out of my depth on those though, as I haven't paid much attention to that particular alignment. |
