Yes... there was a Peavey PV8.5C priced at only $225 at a pawn shop yesterday. I didn't buy it, but it was hard to walk away from those 850 RMS watts (total of both channels into 4 ohms, or bridged into 8). Two-speed fan cooling, so it's mostly inaudible except in very hot weather or when the walls are shaking and your pant legs are flapping. A year or two ago I got a Behringer EP-2500 for the same price, which is more watts, but made in China.

But, if you did have a very efficient horn speaker, perhaps an LM3886 chip amp (or two or more paralleled or bridged or both) would be a reasonable solution. Or, just haul a receiver or integrated amplifier out of the closet, thrift store, car boot sale, flea market, or trash pile, and pretend it's just an amplifier.
