First, because they'd never get it done in this lifetime - they'd pack it full of too many features, the PCB would need multiple revisions, et al. Second, it's cheaper to repair than build. Third, I trust Mackie and QSC's engineers from a reliability standpoint more than I do said college students. Fourth - and this is a biggie - I have an old Soundcraftsmen amplifier sitting around rated for a maximum of 800w into four ohms. It needs a little work, but what does'nt? |

Build a LABhorn or two,you will be on double secret probation in no time...
http://www.prosoundweb.com/lsp/ BTW,they are not kidding about 2 Lab 12 drivers ...I had a sub made of 8 HSU As1202 drivers before I built a LABhorn...the LABhorn kicked their butts... |

let me just jump in here being a college kid myself. I go to NC state which I have heard has a top of the line EE program. Just because you study it doesn't mean you know how to do anything with it. That is more than likely why the amps are having trouble... My old roommate couldn't hardly make a solder joint. when he learned about opamps I wanted to have a discussion with him. he immediately starts breaking down slew rate, efficiency, operating limits etc. but why are those things important, and for that matter why is the opamp an extremely useful tool? to that, no answer. I guess nobody ever told him that they were just little triangles... Sorry to get that off my chest, but if i could please find an EE student here who had any kind of sense, I wouldn't have to.
: ) Polymer Chemistry by day, EE for fun. once you start getting flat in a 40-150hz passband with high efficiency, people will be very happy! I always have to tell myself not to worry too much about the details like a bump in the FR with an application like yours. Party on. |

Do a search on the 'punisher' horn.
Also have a look at www.speakerplans.co.uk for easier to build basshorns than the labhorns. Rob. |

Four Eminence Kappalite 3015LF in tapped horn. With a 1KW amplifier it will play over 140dB. I'm at work now, at home I have a longer version for 30hz if interested.
