I saw this on ebay. Could you guys give me some comment on it? The one on the left looks genuine but the one on the right looks very crappy.
They are manufacture during the same week, can I assume they should be using the same "shell"? |

The printing surface on the left is flat while the surface on the right is slightly 'bulged' The one on the left has shinny surface while the one on the right has coarse one

If they're genuine, what are they doing on eBay then?
I'd buy them only if they were from some hobbyist getting rid of old/excess stock with proof of purchase from an authorized distributor. If not, why take the risk just to save a few bucks? Seen too many cases of eBay vendors selling fake parts from China. |

Give them a try, many fakes are of surprisingly good quality, I suspect many of us and probably several companies live with fakes and are not aware.
Check for Hfe and interelctrode capacitances. |

Hi,
the MJ is ONLY available in To3 package. However, the printing is different from mine. I have MJ15003, 15004, 21193, 21194. In all the left indent is different. MEXICO is almost centred under the MJ21193, not left aligned. The BM0439 is very fractionally left of MEXICO. Again it looks centred on all except the 15003 & 15004 where it is moved slightly left on some, not consistent. Don't know if this is significant. Mine were all direct from ONsemi as samples. |

The last fakes I saw had the printing turned 90 degrees on them.
Main thing to remember....do not purchase semiconductors from ebay. Buy from Mouser or Digi key. Have gotten burned with fakes from MCM. |
