Hello!
My dear old receiver just recently started to make a humming "background noise" (actually quite loud) it seems to me it must be something wrong in the power supply as the humming noise is 50Hz. Could it be the smoothing capacitors? If so - how do I localize them? |

Unplug the unit from the mains power source.Remove the cover . Look for 2 0r 4 large plastic coated aluminum cans, these would be the main power supply filter capacitors!Look them over real good usually when these go south they get hot and swell up or bulge out and start to leak a oily (electrolyte) substance. Beware those same capacitors may still have a healthy charge on them..If you touch the terminals and chassis ground you may get a education! Dave
