hey all,
i have an idea... i'm thinking of an amp which has both solid state as well as tubes. okay...it goes like this, i want o use the tubes to run the tweeters and mid range but i wan the solid state to drive the woofer (low end freq ; i.e bass). to put all this in one box, of course e speaker wud have to be bi-wired. the challenge wud be making this for a 2 way speaker. a 3 way speaker wud be easier i guess.. i've read e bi-amping articles but they dont really split the output signals like this. so guys, any ideas? I'm running a pair of MISSION 764i speakers,89db @ 8ohm. anything upwards of 100v shud be enuf to power these guys. they do suck a lot of juice... rgds. |

If the speakers are 2-way then you can only use 2 amps per channel to drive them. So you would run the tweeters off the valve amp and the woofers off the transistor amp.
If it was a 3-way speaker then you could use another valve amp for the mid.

What box the amps are in is not really relevant. Put them where you want.
You will either use the existing speaker passive crossover, or make a new electronic active crossover. What remains is that you can't use both a transistor and valve amp on one drive unit, they must drive different drive units.
