volume pot

Hi all
I have recently bought my self a 250w monoblock amp (kit) if assembled her and have a bit of a problem with the volume pot when it is turn all the way down it is still pretty loud it is a standard 100 log pot the right side comes from the rca input and the middle to the amp, and the right is open have I missed something.
At this stage im not using a preamp and the pot is the only way for me to put it softer

One other question I would like to put fuses on my crossover how will I determine the size of them?

Your pot is wired wrongly. Input should go to one end, the other end grounded and the wiper to amp input.

P=I^2R Amperage * Amperage * resistance = power
Determine the power desired and the speaker impedance.
Plug in the formula values.
Choose the next larger size fuse to allow for peaks in the current.

Hi,
don't fuse the speaker. It does not sound nice.

Instead fuse the supply rails after the main smoothing bank.

The volume pot should act as a variable voltage divider between input and signal GND, as described by analog_sa

Regarding fusing: follow the advice of AndrewT. Fuse each power rail. Place the fuse after the main (large) smoothing capacitors and before the amplifier output devices.
