aim for F-3db @ 1Hz to 2Hz for sub-bass and bass driving.
As for false triggering on low bass notes, I suggest the detect/trigger should allow 20Hz at full output voltage to pass.
For a sub this could be as low as 10Hz @ full output voltage.

The Hafler DH500 has a three-pole lowpass filter in the DC detect circuit. It will allow full power response to 8hz and still trip at about 1.5V DC.
