I have already started a new thread maybe someone in here has access to a substitution guide or program.I would go with both to come up with complimentary pairs. You are right 998,s are NPN and 778's are PNP they are complimentary pairs.

Check this out
http://www.newcountryenterprises.com/ic_list.htm
KTB778 = 2SA1672
KTD998 = 2SC4387

The only ketch is I believe these are Toshiba and the possibility of being fake or faulty is there. Buyer Beware.

Just ordered them.they require a $10 minimum order so I got a few just to get me to ten bucks.Maybe I'll just replace them all.Thanks so much for the help though man.I never would have found those parts.Its gonna be cool if I can get that thing playing again.If all goes well with this fix I have an old school orion 2150 gx thats next on the repair list.

well I finally got the parts in and soldered them up.I crossed my fingers and applied power to the amplifier.I'm very happy to say it did not pop the fuses at turn on like it had done before.I then proceeded to run a test of all channels and everything appears to be working perfectly.I only got a chance to run an 8 ohm load on each channel tonight so hopefully tomorrow I will be able to run it at 4 ohms and make sure everything is in order.It makes me feel a lot better about fixing my orion amp now that I may have successfully repaired this one.

Default Up & running..

Congrats on your diagnosis & repair of your "ol" amp that was lying around...
I love it when a single diagnosis/repair works just fine without multiple problems.

Hi Spooney,
next time, use the mains light bulb in series with the mains live input.

It allows safe start-up without blowing fuses or risking explosion.

A good safety measure when you have been doing maintenance on electronic equipment.
