Adcom 555 advice

I have been using a 555 to run a subwoofer bridged into a 4 ohm NHT1259 (soon to be something else yet to be determined). I now have a broken 555mkII on the way, keeps blowing fuses. After I fix that, I have to chose one over the other.
I have read on the forum here that some feel that the 555 was not a good "bridged" solution. Is the 555mkII any better? I somehow blew a fuse on my 555 twice now, and it has run fine since then for over a year. Dunno what happened. I did manage to smoke one NHT1259, but that was a function of alcohol and crowds.
Other than different output drivers, is everything else more or less the same? Same transformer, etc?
One might assume that the MKII is "better", but maybe it's a trick question like on 'who wants to be a millionaire'?
