Default computer psu

how do you start a ATX com psu?

i have tried shorting the pwrON to gnd while pwrOK is shorted to 5v....

what else do i have to do?

you don't connect power ok/power good to anything... you should just be able to connect the power on (Green, pin 14) to ground... if that doesn't work, try connecting a load to teh powersupply as well, such as an old harddrive..

1) Power_good is just a monitoring signal normally used by the motherboard to ensure the quality of the power, leave it disconnected.

2) Always provide a load on the +5V line testing without one can destroy the psu in a very short period of time. A small load on +12V is also a very good idea.

3) Short power_on to ground.

the voltage shoots up to 13.39v be4 dropping to 0.2v... and reason for this?

Probably shutting down on overvoltage because there is no load. PC supplies being what they are, have only the least amount of parts to function so sometimes they will act strangely without a load. Definitely use a small load on each rail.
