Question Linn Intek Volume Control Problem

Hi! I'm hoping someone can suggest where I should start with this issue I'm having with a used Linn Intek integrated:

When I turn the volume control clockwise from "off", the unit comes off of mute at a very loud volume. Turning it farther clockwise just makes it louder. I can't listen at a "quiet" volume at all.

Any ideas on where I should start looking, or what I should test? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Grainger

I have used a Linn LK1 pre-amp which uses a linear volume control (MDAC) rather than a log one. So the minimum volume setting isn't very quiet although certianly not too loud.

Some questions springs into mind;

Have you earlier been able to listen to "quiet" volume with this unit ?
Is the sound distorted ?
What source are you listen to ?

Thanks for the responses!

Nope, it has been the same since the first time I plugged it in. The sound isn't distorted at all, and it sounds the same no matter what source I have it plugged into. Also, it is the same on both channels.

If you donīt need to listen to loud volume, the easiest way to cure this, is to add a voltage divider (2x2 resistors) on the volume control....

However if you have the schematic, it will be easier to find a better solution
