Default looking for high quality balun ...

Looking for a quality balanced input to unbalanced output circuit, op-amp or discrete or whatever.

The best advise here will be appreciated.

The project is for a power amp and I would like to have both types of inputs, switchable or not, XLR input and/or "RCA" type input.

Small is good, low parts count is good, but best quality and least signal degradation is the prime directive.

(The name balun, of course referes to the old antenna balun for conversion of 300 ohm to 75 ohm antenna cables, balanced to unbalanced ... bal ... un ... but most of you already knew this.)

Jensen Transformers has a lot of schematics under applications on their main page. Not long ago someone 'round here put me on to it. It's a great resource!

I had no idea

Hello FastEddy

You could take a look at analog devices SSM2143. It is a differential receiver intended for audio use.

http://www.analog.com/en/prod/0,,765...SM2143,00.html

I have never used this part myself, so I cannot tell you anything about sound quality.

If you want to look around then look for Differential receivers or Instrumentation amplifiers.

I hope this helps

Janus

I can supply you with a layout for a quality balanced input receiver, uses op-amps so no problem with obsolescence

Default Great ... got a link?

... or some such.

I now have a "junk" Crown XLS 202 amp that I have run up on the rocks and gutted for its usable cargo ... keeping the power switch, output speaker HF filters and some other parts and the torrid transfoirmer & wiring & hardware (secondaries are +/- 48 VAC & +/- 18 VAC). I am installing a couple of AV400 kit boards and PS filter boards ( http://aussieamplifiers.com ) ... ... and I would like to have both types of inputs: XLR and "RCA", switchable, of as goo a quality as possible.

If your circuit is a part of a complete pre-amp (or can be made as such) then ... super. As for the op-amps, I will brew up a +/- 24 VDC linear supply for your "balun" and other circuits. (The Crown case has gobs of room) ...

Great device. Analog Devices has been doing the good stuff for decades, always a reliable resource. ... Thanks.

The circuit is just one of many that I am getting round to putting on my website. It's a standalone board, fairly small. Might even have a board or two kicking around...

As for PSU, the one where I 'met' you recently while helping the guy to develop his, should be OK and easy to adjust for a different voltage, or there's always my own as I'm sure you know.
