Default Help: 4 ohms speaker with 6 ohm receiver

I'm in the process of playing with some open baffle speakers. I am using a pair of JBL component speakers and the T-amp I have just doesn't have enough juice.

The only other option I have is a Marantz SR4400 receiver that's only rated to 6 ohms.

As long as I don't crank it up (I'm in an old apartment), will using the Marantz put out any sound? Is there protection built in? Will I fry the receiver if I connect it at all?

Please help. I have searched through the forums and this was the closest thread I could find.

Well,if you are not pushing things too hard, the SR4400 should be OK.

Thanks for the replies!

The receiver didn't like it. The sound was warbly (?). That's the only way I can describe it. I shut if off after a few seconds. Oh, well.

Just FYI.
