100k, at least I think that is what it was on my A401 (European A400 with tone controls) I remember because after I blew my A401 up I used the pot for my SE EL34.

Yep.

Next to nothing. Actually 100k is quite high for a solid state amp..
Usually its 10-20k.

So go right ahead and use the pot you have.

I don't understand it a 100% myself.

Apparently the preceding stage needs an appropriate load. Most preceding stages these days are the op-amps in a cd player that have very low output impedances so they can play into any load really. Making it rather irrelevant if you use a 10k or 100k pot AFAIK.

Maybe someone who knows his stuff can chip in.

Practicially none...although one pot "sounds" better than another...but that is a different discussion.

Default anyone know where to get an A400 volume pot ?

My A400 pot is a little scratchy, anyone know where i can get one ?

Ive tried cleaning with a good electrical cleaner but not the Craig products as yet.

Only option i can see is possibly a Alps one off ebay but loosing the balance facility ??

The guys from QUAD Audio (GB) once gave me the tip of using WD-40 for scratching pots......

I've used it 5 years ago on an old OUAD 34 preamp, and it has still not developped scratchy sounds again
