Ok,
I was given this parasound hca-2003 through a coworker. The power supply is messed up as you can see from the photos. I do dc-dc stuff (EE) at work but never mess with anything audio related. How hard would it be in your opinions to repair this amp, or should i just salvage the caps, and transformer and look to build something else. Thanks for any insight whatsoever "Todo we arnt in synchronous buck switcher land anymore" |

transformer, weighs a TON.
3 seperate windings, and 90,000uF of 80V output caps. Its all in pieces, but the rest seems (from observation) to be ok. |

back of board, where burn mark is (obviously)
I was told it was a wife dusting fatality. I do not know what happens if the amp is turned on with all the stages hooked back together . Im going to assume nothing... |

It would be a nice amp to repair.. You could clean the amp up inside ( board ) with Rubbing Alcohol.

Hi Quinn,
I'd start by buying a service manual from parasound. What I have seen so far is a little overheating. Have you done any troubleshooting so far? -Chris |

Hi Quinn,
Okay, so check whatever they may have told you. You can easily test the rectifiers, look for blown or missing fuses for clues. You can check the output transistors. If there are any regulators in there, check for bad solder joints. What were you told about the initial problem? -Chris |
