DIY Amplifier Modules

Greetings to All,

Does there exist a DIY solid state amplifier module capable of passing current such that 100w @ 8Ohms, 200w @ 4Ohms and 400w @ 2Ohms can be obtained?

I'd like to build something capable of driving the vast majority of speakers available.

My abilities are limited to building a linear power supply from scratch, hence the reference to modules, and not schematics, etc.

100W into 8r is easy to find and build. There is lots of choice in designs and kits.

200W into 4r will involve slightly more cost, fairly easy to build and many design/kits available.

400W into 2r is becoming quite speciallised. More difficult to find kits and due to current and multi paralleled devices becomes more difficult to build. Very much more expensive.

Do you really intend driving 2ohm speakers?

BTW. any amp that produces slightly more power than you want can be scaled down by selecting the correct mains transformer.
eg. the Leach is specified as a 120W into 8r using a 40Vac transformer. It will produce about 95W into 8r using a 35Vac transformer. It can also be scaled to work into 4ohm loading by doubling up the output devices. In the Leach clone thread there is a 3pair design that will work well into 4ohms and meet the spec you require for speakers of 4 ohm or higher. There is also a 5pair design that may work down to 2ohm but ask the PCB designer (Jens) for advice.

Finally, an amp that pushes 400W into 2r will manage a lot more than 200W into 4r, probably nearer 230W to 250W and into 8r more like 150W. Unless that was the purpose of your question.
