OK, this is where I hold my hands up and say what an idiot I was, but it's done now and I need some advice (after the horse has bolted natch). If I'd read the handbook of the Krell KAV 300iL properly I would have seen this statement (in small print): ""The differential circuitry employed with the KAV 300iL requires special attention when connecting speakers... Do not attempt to bridge the left and right speaker binding posts..."
You see where this is heading? Needing mono operation to A/B some speakers with and without cabinet mods, and the Krell like most amps not having that most useful of features a mono switch, I commoned the positive speaker connections. Job done I removed the common link and found that I'd blown one channel (there is some output but it is way down). It's not the speaker fuse. I'm bracing myself for an expensive repair job, but before I send it off I thought I'd ask here to find out if there's anything simple it might be. Any ideas? Tim |
