They came in the beginning of the 80's. Made by Hitachi which has changed their name to Renesas. You can still get them, you have second source but the plastic model is available from Renesas.
Parts are always discontiued for three reasons: 1 Won't sell 2 Change of technology 3 Other reasons I'm a fan. I like them.

P-A,
i thought at the end of the 70s, they became available outside Japan in the early 80s.

Hi,
the plastic package replacements for these are available from a few manufacturers. Are the To3 version only available from Exicon? Are the Hitachi versions obsolete? Do Renaisis supply To3 versions? or anyone else?

I've got a pair of old amp boards with these devices, not being a great fan of mosfets I didn't realise they were so sought after. I might have to recap them and give them a go, or if anyone has a good circuit I might be interested in reusing them in something else.

i read my first article about these in 1977(?). i think it was in IEE Consumer Electronics Transactions (?). the circuit they presented was the differential first stage, differential vas stage, driving the mosfets directly.
i wrote to hitachi and first got some samples in my hands in late 1979. mlloyd1 |
