The only thing I can come up with is to solder wires directly to the PCB at the power amp in.
Can you post some pictures of the sockets? Inside and outside view as well as PCB traces. /Hugo |

When you ran the amp as a full integrated, did you have any kind of link from pre-out to power-in, or did it just work with no links/connections? I suspect there is an internal link between these two parts that needs to be broken. It sounds as though the pre-out is loading down whatever you insert into the power-in.

Yes, when it was run as an integrated there are no extra links from the pre-out to the power in, I just simply put my sources into the rca connectors and ran the speakers out of their out puts.
The RCA connectors for the 'Pre Amp In' and 'Power Amp Out' sit next to each at the rear of the unit. I shall just go an get my camera and post some pictures of the outside rear of the 8000a and the circuit board inside. Will be 10 mins or so. John |

Good news, I finally got through to Audiolab and they told me what has to be done.
Although they make it apparently easy to use the 8000A as a pre or a power amp, it's not so simple as just plugging in the RCA's at the rear. Instead I have to unsolder Resistors R979/980 and move them across to empty places on the PCB R985/986. Audiolab support explained that this used to be done by dealers, hence why it is not so user friendly to owners. I'll do this in the next couple of hours, if it works I'll post to let people know. Thanks for the help, John |

Hi,
for those that may be confused : The 8000A has pre-amp out sockets that work. It has power amplifier in sockets that do not work. This is because the power amplifier is internally connected to the pre-amp out, so you do not need to externally connect the two together. This arrangement frees up the pre-amp out sockets, which can be used to drive another power amplifier for bi-amping, or used as a line level input to an active subwoofer. To use the power amplifier in sockets the amp needs internal rewiring. |
