the JLH class A is an example of a 2 stage design.
They are difficult to work with when not in class A
due to the combined phase splitter and gain stage.
Setting the bias for high power class aB is difficult.
Note that JLH reverts to a 3 stage topology for
the class aB version of the above amplifier.
The lack of popularity of 2 stage amps is that 3 stage
amplifiers are much easier to design and technically
have better performance than 2 stage designs.
